Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee is a classification of coffee grown in the Blue Mountains of Jamaica. The 2,300m Blue Mountains are some of the highest mountains in the Caribbean, between Kingston to the south and Port Maria to the north. The climate of the region is cool and misty with high rainfall, and the soil is rich, with excellent drainage, all ideal for coffee growing. The best lots of Blue Mountain are noted for their mild flavour and lack of bitterness. Over the last several decades, this coffee has gained a reputation as one of the world’s most sought-after coffees. “JBM” is a globally protected certification mark so that only coffee certified by the Coffee Industry Board of Jamaica can be labeled as such. Only coffee grown between 910 and 1,700m can be called Jamaica Blue Mountain. Coffee grown from 460m is Jamaica High Mountain, and below that height is Jamaica Supreme or Low Mountain.
This is an extremely rare coffee that is a subtly smooth, light-roast, mellow and aromatic. Not always available, but when it is, it is always roasted to order at our roastery in Belfast.
Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee is something extremely special best enjoyed as a filtered, or cafetiere-based long drink. An elegant taste for a special occasion or when you have time to sit back and truly enjoy it.
