Coffee has been cultivated in Indonesia since the Dutch colonialisation of the 17th Century. ‘Old Brown Java‘ is the industry term given to coffee from this part of Indonesia, which, after cherries have been pupled and cleaned, has been repeatedly turned, aired and dried for at least five years in large sacks. Our Old Brown Java is rested for six years. The resultant beans have therefore turned in colour from greyish-green to light tan. This process enables the flavour to increase in strength while the coffee loses acidity. These aged coffees are called ‘Old Government’, ‘Old Brown’ or ‘Old Java’.
SD Bell’s ‘Komodo Dragon‘ coffee is a medium-roast Old Java. A rich, smooth all-day coffee that sits particularly well in a cafetiere / French press.
