It’s been some years since we had Lapsang Souchong in stock, due to its failure, as a category, to pass stringent European phytosanitary certification tests. At last, we have managed to get hold of some again, fully certified as pesticide-free, and we are thrilled to have it back in the catalogue.
Lapsang is a classic China from Hunan province, produced in a traditional, time-honoured way. It is picked by hand, then withered, fermented and dried. It is then naturally smoked in the traditional manner using fresh pine shavings, rolled and dried again before shipping. This process creates light, smoky, yet refreshing flavour. Great as an afternoon tea, served without milk, maybe with a slice of lemon. Samuel David Bell used to put a pinch in his Natural Leaf brew every morning, and he lived until he was 88 years old!
